Veranstaltung im Rahmen der Ausstellung // Fluid Bodies // Fr 18.09.– So 01.11.2020

Jake Elwes (London) interessiert sich für den Umgang von künstlicher Intelligenz mit genderfluiden Körpern. Seine webbasierte Arbeit Zizi legt die Wirkung der heutige Erkennungs- und Überwachungstechnologien offen. Sie bestimmen z. B. Merkmale falsch, wenn sie nicht dem herkömmlichen Schema von weiblich und männlich entsprechen. Elwes nutzt die Fehlleistungen von Künstlicher Intelligenz, um ineinanderfließende Gesichter zu erzeugen, die sich dem Zugriff von Gesichtserkennung entziehen.
Die Ausstellung Fluid Bodies zeigt fünf künstlerische Positionen, die sich mit aktuellen Fragen bezüglich körperlicher Selbstbestimmung und Selbstgestaltung befassen.

Jake Elwes (London) is interested in how artificial intelligence copes with gender-fluid bodies. His web-based work Zizi reveals the effects of todays recognition- and surveillance- technologies. For example, these technologies identify features incorrectly if they do not correspond to the conventional female and male stereotypes. Elwes uses the failures of artificial intelligence to create merging faces that elude the access of facial recognition.

The exhibition Fluid Bodies presents five artistic perspectives on current issues of bodily self-determination and self-design. Through a process of liberalization that began in the 1960s, fixed notions of how bodies should look, behave or be represented became flexible and fluid. Artists believed in the emancipatory power of new media, tested artificial selves with bodies that could be changed and freely formed. Today, social media and new surveillance technologies have once again created standard notions of bodies. Fluid Bodies addresses the pressure to which human bodies are exposed today as a result of economic conditions and the digital media.
