Die Ausstellung In a World of Endless Rainfall stellt künstlerische Arbeiten vor, die sich mit dem Verhältnis von Mensch und Natur neu beschäftigen. Sie hinterfragen die fürs westliche Denken charakteristische Trennung der Bereiche und entwerfen erweiterte Beziehungsformen. Dinge, Tiere, Lebewesen sind allesamt instabile Assemblagen, die sich unablässig beeinflussen und gegenseitigen Respekt fordern. Ein beherrschendes, ausbeuterisches Naturverständnis weicht einer Choreografie des Werdens, die auf Austausch und Durchlässigkeit beruht.

Ika Huber (Freiburg i. Br.) arbeitet mit vegetabilen und floralen Formen. Ihre Malerei ist von einer dynamischen Beziehung zur Natur geprägt, die an asiatische Kalligrafie anklingt. Im Gegensatz zu einem Naturverständnis, das Dinge und Vorgänge zu beherrschen versucht, geht es der Künstlerin um Gewähren- und Wachsenlassen.

Pauline v. Angerer (Erlangen) kartografiert ihre Umgebung, indem sie Blüten, Samen und Früchte von Pflanzen sammelt und zu Halsketten verarbeitet. Die fragilen Objekte erinnern an kindliches Tun und an eine romantische Naturauffassung. Herkunft und Kulturgeschichte der Pflanzen verweisen auf die Natur als Rohstoff und Konsumgut im kapitalistischen System.

Lucia Schmucks (Nürnberg) Papierarbeiten stehen in der langen Tradition der Pflanzendarstellung, die aus naturwissenschaftlichen Studien und der Erfassung der vegetativen Schönheit entstand. Als Mischformen thematisieren sie den sezierenden Blick wie eine empfängliche offene Sensibilität.

Johannes Willi (Basel) & Daniel Lara (Mexico City) beschäftigen sich in der ortsspezifischen Installation DJ Duft juega con tus sentimientos mit der animistischen Umweltauffassung indigener Völker und der heilenden Wirkung von Klang. Durch die eingezogenen Basssaiten wird der künstliche Wald zum Klangkörper. Darauf spielen Willi und Lara ihre neuen Kompositionen.

In Wishing Well (2018) verwendet Sylvia Schedelbauer (Berlin) Found Footage eines Naturfilms aus den 1970er-Jahren und verarbeitet es zu einem Flicker-Film. In der Gleichzeitigkeit der unterschiedlichen Bildschichten wird die Zerstörung des menschlichen Lebensraums unterschwellig angeprochen.

Ann Lee & Marcel (2016) ist eine Arbeit von Tino Sehgal, die sich mit der Manga-Figur Ann Lee beschäftigt. Sehgal erweckt sie in Ann Lee (2011) zum Leben. Sie verlässt ihr Dasein als flache Gestalt der Animationsfilme der Künstler Pierre Huyghe und Philippe Parreno und tritt in den dreidimensionalen Raum der Menschen. 2016 greift Sehgal in „Ann Lee & Marce“l die Figur erneut auf, um grundlegende Fragestellungen heutigen Menschseins zu behandeln.

The exhibition In a World of Endless Rainfall presents artistic works that deal with the relationship between man and nature. They question the opposition between these areas that is characteristic of Western thinking by extended forms of their intertwining. A dominant, exploitative understanding of nature gives way to a choreography of becoming, based on exchange and permeability.

Ika Huber (Freiburg i Br.) works with vegetal and floral forms. Her painting outlines a dynamic relationship to nature, reminiscent of Asian calligraphy. In contrast to a hierarchical understanding of nature that attempts to control, the artist is committed to a process of allowing and enabling.

Pauline v. Angerer (Erlangen) maps her surroundings by collecting blossoms, seeds and fruits from flowers and plants, which she making into necklaces. The fragile objects are reminiscent of child`s play and a romantic notion of the natural world. By alluding to the provenance and cultural history of plants, Angerer`s objects refer to nature as a raw material and commodity in the capitalist system.

Lucia Schmuck’s (Nürnberg) paper works stand in the long tradition of plant representation, which emerged from scientific studies and the depiction of vegetative beauty. As mixed forms, they reveal an anatomizing approach as well as a receptive open sensitivity.

Playing with the healing effect of sound Johannes Willi (Basel) & Daniel Lara (Mexico City) address an animistic world view common with indigenous people in their new site-specific installation DJ Duft juega con tus sentimientos. Bass strings attached to their artificial forest transform the installation into resonating body. On this instrument Willi’s and Lara’s new compositions will be played.

In Wishing Well (2018), Sylvia Schedelbauer (Berlin) uses found footage of a nature film from the 1970s and processes it with other found images into a flicker movie. In the simultaneous layering of different sources, the destruction of the human activity is addressed.

Ann Lee & Marcel (2016) is a work by Tino Sehgal, which deals with the manga character Ann Lee. Sehgal brings her to life in Ann Lee (2011). Thereby she leaves her existence as a flat figure in the animated films of the artists Pierre Huyghe and Philippe Parreno and enters the three-dimensional world of human beings. In 2016, Sehgal revisits the figure in Ann Lee & Marcel to deal with basic issues of the human condition today.
